Mark Fields new Ford CEO

Ford Motors recently announced that their current CEO Alan Mulally will retire July 1^st – his shoes will be filled by long-time Ford executive Mark Fields, who is currently the company’s COO. Alan Mulally is considered to be one of the most influential men in Ford’s history. Mulally, is responsible for converting Ford into the money-making power corporation that it is today. His retirement came about six months early – Ford said, “July is approximately six months earlier than previously anticipated, following Mulally’s recommendation to accelerate the timetable based on the readiness of Ford’s leadership team.” Although Mr. Mulally, will be tremendously missed, Ford is happy to know that he is looking forward to this new chapter in life. The C-Max ranges MSRP from $25,000-33,000 estimated MPG City/Hwy 45/40. Seating 5, the Ford C-Max comes in two trims, the SE and the SEL. Ford describes the C-Max as "Efficient operation combined with dynamic style and performance."

The C-Max is equipped with a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle I-4 gas engine with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission and regenerative braking system. It also comes with SYNC technology including: hands free calling, voice commands and 911 Assist.

Not including the 56.2 cubic feet of cargo space, the Ford C-max also offers multiple storage areas including in the center console and in-floor storage compartments.

Looking at a Honda CR-V? How about a new Ford Escape?

 

 

2014 Ford Escape vs. 2014 Honda CR-V

 

Both of these vehicles are top sellers, seat 5 passengers, have 4 cylinder engines and have optional AWD, but which is a better all around buy?

In regards to changes, the Ford Escape has added the optional foot-operated lift gate and class II trailer-towing package. The CR-V hasn't made any changes since it's redesign in 2012. Ford discontinued the SEL trim and stuck with the SE and Titanium, with three engine options all available with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The CR-V is available in FWD and AWD, three trim levels and one engine. The CR-V stands on top slightly with fuel economy with 26 combined Hwy/city. However, Ford takes the edge when it comes to horsepower and torque offering 240 horsepower on the Titanium model with the 2.0l Ecoboost.

The Honda CR-V topped the Escape receiving a 5 star crash-test rating from NHTSA, where Ford received 4 stars. Honda definitely will protect you in a crash, but the Ford comes out on top with safety-related technology.

Let's talk technology. Technology isn't for all consumers, so this could go either way. Honda offers Pandora internet radio, which Ford does not. Technology they share are: USB Port, back-up camera, Bluetooth, dual climate, premium sound and satellite radio. Ford runs with the win on technology offering on top of all of that: SOS Post Crash Alert, Torque vectoring control, MyKey, 911 Assist, MyFord Touch, Keyless entry, push-start button, Blind Spot Alerts, Cross Traffic alerts and power-lift gate. So, if you are a the type that thrives off of new technology, the Ford Escape is a great choice for you. However, if those options are something you would never use, it's a toss-up.

One great option that the CR-V does offer that would have to be added after-market on the Escape is the DVD rear entertainment system.

Overall, both great choices. The Honda CR-V may be said that it has better practicality, but the Ford Escape offers better value, greater technology and variety when it comes to options available.
